Buying a home here is different. I know, you’ve heard that before. But it really is. No joke.

The Top 10 Things To Consider When Looking For A Home Here On The Northern Neck.

  1. Will you be a full-timer or a weekender? That could play a big part in the area you choose.

  2. Access to internet may be a top priority for you. If the home is not with Breezeline and hard-wired to your home it can be cost prohibitive to install it. It may effect the future value of the home. So Ask!

  3. How close is the nearest hospital? Rescue or Fire?

  4. Getting things done here takes time. LOTS OF TIME.

  5. Gloucester and Tappahannock are the closest places to shop the big box stores. Our local suppliers are wonderful and will usually match any price. You can actually deal with the owner instead of a corporation.

  6. Consider how far you will be from the grocery store, pharmacy, bank etc.

  7. The water depths around here a moving targets. Not to mention some creeks are impossible to get in or out of. You can be at the mercy of the tides.

  8. There are “Born Here’s” and “Come Here’s”. Get to know a “Born Here” and you’ll become fast friends.

  9. Parts of The Northern Neck are in a time warp. In some ways its still 1950 here and we like it that way. Most places are closed on Sundays, close at 5:00 on weekdays, maybe 2:00 on weekends. The pace is slow. Real slow as if time doesn’t matter.

  10. If it’s a nice day, take advantage of it. That seems to be the local motto. Work to live. Not live to work. Easier said than done.

Mill Creek is a secret magical universe. Flat water, golden sunsets and a perfect Hurricane Hole.

You can go boating sometimes through November.

I am proud to have been a small part of this video series. Dr. Emory Lewis explains the magic of living here. And the importance of being unplugged. Dr’s orders!
